    Your use of Cuisenaire rods with your two matrix English verb tense system influenced me to add the idea of the rods to my three matrix active voice tense map. Instead of Cuisenaire rods, I used colored rectangles in a Power Point slide show and applied them to the passive voice plus active and passive modals You can find the slide show and others under my name, Labrum tensemap and’or Labrum grammar, on YouTube.

    I discovered your method for teaching english tenses some years ago and have been using and refining it ever since. This was after spending several years trying to explain the difference between present simple and present continuous and between present perfect and past simple to german and french students. I don’t use cuisinaire rods as they are a bit bulky to carry around. I just use plastic counters. I was wanting to know where this method came from as it really is very effective with nearly all students. (I teach kids, young people, adults) The other aspect I like about it has come to me just recently. The fact that there is only present and past and that the future is built in the present. We never actually live in the future only in the present or in the past. I find it interesting that the english language reflects this reality. My dream would be to have this system used worldwide in schools.
